Our team put together a trial program that we hoped would eventually become specifically suited to addressing the specific therapeutic needs of our clients. Two computer hardware consultants worked on the electrical mechanical aspects of these commercially available programs until ultimately, we had the equivalent of a Corvette engine crammed into the chassis of a Volkswagon. (This hardware is proprietary and not available to the public.)
As a consequence of this Research and Development phase of 18 months, new office space, new people, new expertise, new hardware, new software and the tested and tried foundation of Alfred Tomatis's own Listening Training Method, we developed two or three new protocols for treatment using a combination of programs specifically tailored to address each of our children's individual needs. But the question was, would it work?
We realized that we would need to have an in depth understanding of each child's unique auditory-visual-motor processing patterns. Our initial assessments have become more complicated now that we had a team of experts from different disciplines to combine in the assessment. As we take the full spectrum of treatments further by means of Advanced Listening Training, we need to run a battery of tests by which we assess, as we mentioned before, laterality and interhemispheric (right brain/left brain) communication, motor planning, quickness of response time, the child's general coordination and body map, his ability to perceive objects in motion while being in motion (i.e. catching a ball), her language and speech problems, if any, and so on. This is all preliminary to beginning the ALT program.
