Over the last year we have been testing the Advanced Listening Training on a variety of clients, with the aim of assessing and improving its effectiveness. The results on many children have shown an improvement in their overall processing abilities. This progress in the tested children has included some of the following changes: Increased attention span, improved self-organizational abilities, improved reading and spelling skills. Results, as usual vary according to the child. (But then again, the program also varies according to the child.)
Thus, we are happy and encouraged with the results achieved up to this point, and we think that even though we have high standards to live up to (those being the standards of our Tomatis program and the guidelines of our respective licensed professions), we feel comfortable in offering the Advanced Listening Training as as a new part of the therapeutic services offered at the Spectrum Center.
Do not for a moment think that we have abandoned the hands on "occupational" focus of therapy just because we have incorporated some computer based programming. This is not the yuppie equivalent to babysitting your kid in front of the television set. (In fact this program incorporates sufficient body work that we have considered applying its usefulness to the performing arts. )
